Information reaching PAZION MEDIA indicates that a section of the main Kumasi-Accra road at Konongo is in danger of collapsing if something concrete and urgent is not done to avert the resultant impending calamity.
The affected area is about 900-millimetre, approximately 3 feet culvert buried under the tarred road, between the Mobil Filling Station and the Pinamang Preparatory School near the Asante Akyem Central Municipal Assembly block. A drainage system flows towards the road.
Authorities in the Asante Akyem Central Municipal Assembly say they have detected huge gullies beneath the asphalted surface which pose a potential danger to road users.
Close to the main Kumasi-Accra road in Konongo is this big, deep gully eating into the main road gradually.
Residents and drivers who use that stretch of the road have been asked to be careful when using the road.
The authorities disclosed that the road defects began developing many years ago and have since extended almost half into the main road.
“Nobody will survive if there is an accident; we are ready to relocate those around that portion of the road because fixing the road is important to us”, presiding member of the Assembly said.
Municipal Chief Executive for Asante Akyem Central, Robert Yaw Kwakye, has pleaded with the government and highways authority to come to their aid to avert any calamity.
“If we do not repair that damage it is going to be a disaster which will not be locally but will be a national disaster because it is a major washout.
“We don’t want any accident to happen in those areas, we will plead with those in charge to act quickly.
