Samartex Greengold, in collaboration with Joy News, Voice of America, and the US Agency for Global Media, will be hosting an educational documentary titled “Poisoned for Gold” on Friday, 12th January 2024 at Samreboi-Samartex Forest Club. This documentary aims to shed light on the detrimental effects of exposure to chemicals such as lead, mercury, arsenic, and other heavy metals caused by the rampant illegal mining known as “Galamsey.”

The documentary will focus on the devastating consequences of these harmful chemicals on both children and adults. It has been observed that the “Galamsey” menace contributes to an increased risk of death among children, cognitive deficits affecting their school performance, and even suspected congenital malformations.

“Poisoned for Gold” aims to raise awareness about the grave environmental and health issues resulting from unscrupulous mining activities. By highlighting the impact on communities and the urgent need for action, the documentary hopes to drive change in policy and practices surrounding mining operations.
