A tragic incident unfolded in Assin Paalaam, Central Region, where 32-year-old Bead Maker, Georgina Echem Snr, was found deceased after an alleged suicide by hanging on March 24, 2024. The discovery was made in the afternoon around 3:00 PM, with the deceased hanging from a skipping rope in her corridor.
Upon examination of the body, traces of blood were observed on her blouse, right leg, and the cement floor near her mouth and nose. While the exact cause of death remains uncertain, the deceased’s elder sister disclosed to Kasapa News Yaw Boagyan that Georgina had requested financial support from the family to further her education, a request that was supposed to be fulfilled by the end of the month.
In an interview with Kasapa News Yaw Boagyan, the sister recounted how Georgina opted to stay at home while the family prepared for church on that Sunday morning. The family was shocked to receive news of her suicide, as there were no apparent indications of her intentions.
Georgina was known to be the older twin sister and an adept bead-maker, adding to the tragedy of her untimely death. Following the incident, the district police command in Assin Fosu intervened promptly, removing the body and conveying it to St. Francis Xavier Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy purposes. Investigations have been initiated to uncover the circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide.
This unfortunate event marks a rare occurrence in the area, prompting residents to urge the police to conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain if any foul play was involved.
