In a harrowing event that has shaken the Ekumfi Ekumpoano community in the Central Region, a woman, believed to be in her early 30s, was discovered washed ashore under gruesome circumstances. The incident occurred during a funeral ceremony, casting a shadow of sorrow and fear over what was already a sombre event.

The body of the deceased was found in a shocking state, with critical parts, including her head, vaglna, and intestines, gruesomely removed. The removal of these parts suggests a deliberate act of violence rather than an accident. The condition of the body, described as being on the verge of decomposition, has made identification efforts challenging. It has been reported that the deceased was a student, although her identity and the institution she belonged to remain unknown.

The incident has sparked widespread fear and concern among the residents of Ekumfi Ekumpoano. This is the first occurrence of such a disturbing nature in the community, leaving many to fear for their safety. The community, surrounded by dense bush, now harbours concerns about potential dangers lurking nearby, especially for those venturing out at night for fishing activities.

In response to this tragedy, local customs, including libations and sacrifices, were observed before the body was moved, signalling the community’s deep-rooted respect for the deceased and the serious nature of the incident. Authorities, including the police, local chiefs, and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), were promptly informed and have taken charge of the situation. The body was transported to a morgue for autopsy, preservation, and efforts towards identification.

The police, together with the residents, are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the deceased and her family. This plea underscores the collective desire for closure and justice for the victim.

Amidst the grief and shock, there is a growing call for increased security measures in the area. The residents’ fears of a potential “bad person” hiding within the community or the surrounding areas have prompted demands for a stronger police presence to deter further violence and ensure the safety of the community.

The tragic incident at Ekumfi Ekumpoano has not only resulted in the loss of a young life but has also instilled a sense of vulnerability and fear within the community. As investigations continue, there is a collective hope for justice for the deceased and enhanced security measures to prevent any future incidents.
