Gifty Kyere, a 28-year-old final-year midwifery and nursing student at Sunyani Midwifery and Nursing Training College, has tragically died in her boyfriend’s residence in Jinijini, located in the Bono Region.
Initial reports suggest that Gifty’s death occurred after her 23-year-old boyfriend, Edmund Ayomah, allegedly attempted to terminate her pregnancy through unsafe and unorthodox methods.
Edmund Ayomah initially provided a false account of the events leading to Gifty’s death, claiming that she had succumbed to an asthma attack and that he was unable to seek medical assistance due to financial constraints. However, this initial claim was later refuted, and Ayomah subsequently confessed that he had, in fact, intended for Gifty to undergo an abortion, which ultimately resulted in her death.
The deceased’s father revealed that Gifty had visited home the day prior to the incident to collect her school fees and other essential items, but instead of returning to campus, she went to her boyfriend’s residence. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Gifty’s death to ascertain the full extent of Ayomah’s involvement and to determine the appropriate charges, if any, that will be filed against him.
