Sex and Work Myths Drive Dangerous Drug Use, Undermining Healthcare Efforts-Pharmacy Technician, Francis Wilson Boadu

In a recent interview with Pharmacy Technician, Francis Wilson Boadu (Moole) who works at the Father Thomas Rooney Catholic Hospital in Asankrangwa, Amenfi West, conducted by Pazion Media, he shed light on the multifaceted nature of healthcare delivery in the Amenfi West Municipality. The interview which took place at Melody Hotel in Asankrangwa on 19th July, 2025 revealed a mix of positive developments alongside persistent challenges, painting a picture of a community striving to improve its health outcomes amidst resource constraints and deeply ingrained misconceptions.

One of the most concerning issues highlighted by Mr. Francis Boadu is the dangerous trend of drug abuse fueled by popular myths. He emphasized that many individuals are consuming unprescribed drugs like “Red” and Tramadol based on the misguided belief that these substances enhance sexual performance for marathon sex or boost productivity during long working hours. This dangerous reliance on unprescribed medications poses serious health risks and underscores the need for targeted education campaigns to dispel these myths and promote responsible medication use.

Adding to the burden, Boadu noted that Typhoid is surging in Amenfi West, increasing the overall prevalence of the already common diseases. This emergence of Typhoid amidst the ongoing struggles with diabetes, hypertension, and malaria further strains the healthcare system and requires urgent attention from public health officials.

Despite these challenges, Boadu also pointed to a positive development: healthcare has improved in Amenfi West due to the easier access to medication resulting from a notable increase in pharmacies in the area. This proliferation of pharmacies has undoubtedly brought medication closer to the people, reducing travel time and improving adherence to treatment regimens.

Another alarming trend, according to Boadu, is that some Patients often think they know more about the prescribed drugs than pharmacy staff. This highlights the necessity of continued patient education, but it also brings light to where to assign blame if anything goes wrong.

Continuing with the emphasis on the role of both parties in health management, Francis Wilson Boadu explained that patient cooperation is crucial for sensitive drug administration. Such cooperation helps to reduce resistance in adhering to the drug’s instructions and proper intake for great results.

Adding on how important the role of patients are when it comes to administering the appropriate steps for the treatment process, it is also the understanding of Technician Francis Boadu that although lab tests help Healthcare Providers decide on the best treatment approach , yet many avoid due to cost and time.

The pharmacy Technician continued by emphasizing the need to clear a misconception where some patients have an irrational belief that they should get more drugs, just like other patients. The understanding from the statement is for all stake holders of the healthcare center to be on the same page to ensure that patients receive the right information on the process and quantity of drugs assigned to them.

Adding to the statement of financial difficulties that can affect the ease of quality healthcare delivery, Francis Wilson Boadu applauded the kind and generous actions of members of the community in Amenfi West stating a need for More Good Samaritans’ To alleviate healthcare cost on patients.

In conclusion, Francis Wilson Boadu’s insights offer a valuable snapshot of the complexities and nuances of healthcare in Amenfi West. While progress has been made in terms of medication access, the region continues to grapple with significant challenges such as drug abuse, the rise of typhoid, and financial barriers to essential services. Addressing these issues requires a multifaceted approach involving education, regulation, community engagement, and a collective commitment to improving the health and well-being of all residents of Amenfi West. It is obvious that the region requires much input from stake holders to make it safe and easy for patients to get healthcare.
