Policewoman’s Throat Slit in iPhone Robbery

In an Unfortunate incident, armed robbers have slit the neck of a policewoman in Tema. The victim, identified as Lance Corporal Confidence Tetteh, stationed at Tema Community Two, was returning home from an evening church service when she was accosted by two men on a motorbike. Little did she know, this seemingly ordinary commute would turn into a terrifying ordeal.

The two assailants, later identified as Mustapha Abu, an automechanic, and Sadat Mohammed Issah, an electrician, were riding on a motorbike. Mustapha, the pillion rider, wielded a machete, and placed the weapon on the officer’s neck and asked her”Your life or your phone.”

Lance Corporal Tetteh, despite her training and experience, was faced with a split-second decision. As a seasoned officer, she bravely refused to comply. This resistance, however, was met with shocking violence. Mustapha reportedly slashed her neck, inflicting a deep and dangerous wound alarmingly close to her throat. Having incapacitated their victim, the assailants robbed her of her iPhone XR and fled the scene, leaving the injured policewoman to her fate.

Fortunately, the perpetrators did not remain at large for long. In a swift response, Mustapha Abu and Sadat Mohammed were apprehended later the same day. A search of their persons revealed not only Lance Corporal Tetteh’s stolen iPhone but also three additional phones, suggesting a pattern of criminal activity targeting other unsuspecting victims.

This single act of violence raises a multitude of concerns about the factors that contribute to youth crime: poverty, lack of opportunity, social disaffection, the influence of peer pressure, the easy availability of weapons, and a potential breakdown in moral values. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for community-based interventions, improved law enforcement, and a broader societal effort to address the root causes of youth crime and prevent future tragedies like this one from occurring. The Tema community, and indeed the nation, must grapple with these difficult questions to ensure a safer and more secure future for all its citizens.
