The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued a public summons requiring former Finance Minister, Mr. Kenneth Ofori-Atta, to appear in person before their office by June 2nd, 2025. The summons, issued by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, carries a stern warning of potential consequences should Ofori-Atta fail to comply.
According to the public release from the OSP, Ofori-Atta is considered a “prime suspect” in five ongoing investigations related to alleged corruption and corruption-related offenses. The OSP seeks to question him regarding his role in these matters.
The summons explicitly states that failure to appear by the specified date will result in Ofori-Atta being re-entered on the OSP’s list of wanted persons. Furthermore, the OSP will consider him a fugitive from justice and will initiate the process of issuing an Interpol Red Notice. This would allow for the initiation of extradition proceedings in any jurisdiction where Ofori-Atta may be located.
The OSP’s forceful stance underscores the seriousness with which they are pursuing the investigations and their determination to ensure Ofori-Atta is held accountable, should evidence of wrongdoing be found. The summons and accompanying warning significantly escalate the pressure on the former Finance Minister and highlight the OSP’s commitment to tackling corruption, regardless of the individual’s previous position or influence. The public will be closely watching to see how Ofori-Atta responds to the summons and whether he will cooperate with the OSP’s investigation.
