Since winning the Carabao Cup, Manchester United haven’t won or scored a goal in the Premier League.
Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Lisandro Martinez were ordered to go and applaud the away fans by Steve McClaren and Bruno Fernandes.
Paul Scholes: “Casemiro is a big loss – we’ve seen what he’s brought to this Manchester United team in terms of experience and leadership. Newcastle played really well, if you walked away from this game and they’d scored four or five you wouldn’t be surprised.
Luke Shaw: “I feel like i say the same things every time we lose, like I said, it’s unacceptable. We know that. It was a massive game today and they wanted it more and at MUFC that can’t be possible.”
Ten Hag: “It hurts me to say that the other team had more passion and desire.
Ten Hag: “They [Newcastle] could easily come into our box. We did well blocking shots, but we have to do much better.
Ten Hag: “I was surprised the team couldn’t match the determination + passion of the opponent. You know when you travel to St James’ Park what will be going on, especially after we won the cup. If you want to win big games you have to be mature, I didn’t see that.
Ten Hag: “We had our opportunities but then you have to go for goal with the determination they did. It wasn’t good enough. We allowed them too many chances. You have to be hungry and give everything.
Ten Hag on his subs: “We were not happy. We played too high in midfield and it was easy for their two centre-halves to go and attack. We had to play a little bit deeper. Therefore we made the sub.
Ten Hag: “I think our attacking game was not good enough. I don’t want to focus on one person, it was about the team performance. It wasn’t good enough.
Gary Neville: “Erik Ten Hag was badly let down by the club in January, it’s almost like they’re 900 million in debt, who would of thought.”
Jamie Redknapp: “They’ve got the right manager, he’s proven it, they’ve got back him.”
Ten Hag: “Then in the end we were losing so we decided to go with three at the back and play an extra offensive player and I decided to take both centre-backs off with Lindelof to defend the spaces.”
Ten Hag: “We have to deal with the setback and learn a lesson. So many times recently, we came back after Liverpool. I don’t have that concern. I believe in the team. I believe we’ll bounce back.
Ten Hag: “In a season you get set backs and we have to deal with it. I believe in my team. I believe we will bounce back.”
Dalot: “I think they wanted that a little bit more than us today and that can not happen. If we want to fight for more, want to compete for the Premier League, we have to be more consistent, come here and dominate the game.
Dalot: “Especially in the last third, we could have been a little bit more patient with the ball to find the spaces, to create more chances. We have to show desire, beat them in desire and beat them in every challenge we have.”
