Ten Hag: “We had our opportunities but then you have to go for goal with the determination they did. It wasn’t good enough. We allowed them too many chances. You have to be hungry and give everything.

Ten Hag on his subs: “We were not happy. We played too high in midfield and it was easy for their two centre-halves to go and attack. We had to play a little bit deeper. Therefore we made the sub.

Ten Hag: “I think our attacking game was not good enough. I don’t want to focus on one person, it was about the team performance. It wasn’t good enough.

Gary Neville: “Erik Ten Hag was badly let down by the club in January, it’s almost like they’re 900 million in debt, who would of thought.”

Jamie Redknapp: “They’ve got the right manager, he’s proven it, they’ve got back him.”

Ten Hag: “Then in the end we were losing so we decided to go with three at the back and play an extra offensive player and I decided to take both centre-backs off with Lindelof to defend the spaces.”

Ten Hag: “We have to deal with the setback and learn a lesson. So many times recently, we came back after Liverpool. I don’t have that concern. I believe in the team. I believe we’ll bounce back.

Ten Hag: “In a season you get set backs and we have to deal with it. I believe in my team. I believe we will bounce back.”

Dalot: “I think they wanted that a little bit more than us today and that can not happen. If we want to fight for more, want to compete for the Premier League, we have to be more consistent, come here and dominate the game.

Dalot: “Especially in the last third, we could have been a little bit more patient with the ball to find the spaces, to create more chances. We have to show desire, beat them in desire and beat them in every challenge we have.”

United recruit in the summer window will be bought using the same mechanism. United have a £300m limit with Bank of America, so there is scope for significant spending, so long as it falls within FFP.
