Manchester United’s rising star, Kobbie Mainoo, recently offered a glimpse into his footballing journey, revealing a passion that ignited early in life and continues to fuel his development. His words showcase the natural flair and love for the game that have propelled him to the forefront of young talent.
Mainoo’s love affair with football began at a tender age, spending countless hours honing his skills and embracing the joy of the game. “I played a lot as a striker as a kid. Until about 14, I played upfront and then I started to move backwards into an attacking midfielder and wide player and then I settled in midfield,” he shared.
His natural inclination towards attack and his enjoyment of taking on opponents are evident. “I got a lot of the ball, which is what I always wanted. I enjoyed taking people on, nutmegging people. I still do. I always wanted to dribble,” Mainoo revealed.
This passion for the game wasn’t confined to organized matches or training sessions. “There wasn’t one specific moment when I fell for football, I was just always playing it. During lunchtimes and breaks I was always desperate to get hold of a ball and just run with it,” he added.
The love for the game extended beyond the schoolyard. “There was a big field next to my house so my mates would come over on sleepovers and in the morning we’d all go out there,” Mainoo shared, highlighting the social and communal aspect of his football journey.
Mainoo’s journey from a young striker to a talented midfielder reflects his adaptability and growth within the game. His passion, evident from a young age, continues to drive him, shaping him into a player who thrives on the thrill of dribbling, taking on opponents, and embracing the beautiful game in all its glory.
