Fr. Henry Mary Ussher to Commission School and Launch Four New Books at Asankran Breman in Wassa Amenfi West

The community of Asankran Breman and the wider Wassa Amenfi West Municipality is preparing for a day of immense pride, and momentous ocassion on Saturday, November 15th, 2025 as Fr. Henry Mary Ussher will commission the newly built Akosua Afrim School Complex and the simultaneous launch of four highly anticipated books. The event will take place at Adomfie in Asankran Breman, drawing community members eager to witness this significant milestone.

The four books, titled “The Supposed Mad Man,” “The Writings,” “The Reflections,” and “Church Matters,” are filled with insightful stories of experiences and fulfillment, which promise to be valuable additions to local libraries and personal collections.

This dual celebration is particularly meaningful as it embodies Fr. Ussher’s unwavering commitment to education, community development, and intellectual pursuits. The Akosua Afrim School Complex, named in loving memory of his late mother, Paulina Akosua Afrim, represents a profound investment in the future of Wassaland’s children, while the book launch provides an opportunity for reflection, learning, and shared understanding.

Biography of Fr. Henry Mary Ussher

Born on November 14th, 1965, in Asankran Moseaso, Fr. Ussher is the son of the late Mr. John Ussher and Mad. Paulina Akosua Afrim. He completed his basic education at D/C Middle School in Moseaso in 1982 and subsequently entered St. Theresa’s Minor Seminary in 1984. He excelled in his studies, earning his O’Level and A’Level certificates in 1990 and 1992, respectively.

Driven by his deep faith, Fr. Ussher embarked on his priestly formation at St. Paul Major Seminary in Sowutuom, Accra, dedicating a year to Spirituality followed by two years of Philosophical Studies. He continued his theological education at St. Peter’s Regional Major Seminary for four years, culminating in a Certificate in Theology, a BA in Sociology & Religions from the University of Ghana, Legon, in 1997, and a Post Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast in 1999.

Ordained as a Catholic Priest, Fr. Ussher served with dedication in the Catholic Diocese of Wiawso from 1999 until June 2012. He currently serves in the Diocese of Jefferson City, Missouri, USA, as a parish priest overseeing two parishes and a mission church.

Legacy of Fr. Henry Mary Ussher

Despite his current residence in the United States, Fr. Ussher remains deeply committed to the well-being of his community in Ghana. His profound sense of responsibility has fuelled his remarkable achievements, including the construction of the Sr. Agnes Cudjoe’s Memorial Hospital, commissioned on June 14, 2019. Motivated by a desire to give back to the communities where he grew up, that is Moseaso, Oda Kotoamoso, and Breman, Fr. Ussher sought to provide access to quality healthcare in a modern and dignified setting.

The Akosua Afrim School Complex is yet another powerful symbol of Fr. Ussher’s unwavering dedication to his community. He built the school to honour his mother’s memory and provide a safe and conducive learning environment for the children of Wassaland, fostering their potential and empowering them to build a brighter future.
