The Minister of Education, Hon. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum in an exclusive interview on TV3 NEWDAY show revealed that one thing he is seriously excited about is that they have put an end to the perennial examination leakages that confronted Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in this country. He said when the president charged him to find a way to end it, he was on the ground and brought about best practices in the world called serialization.
He further added that, two years ago, on the BECE, different regions had different questions even though it was the same level of difficulty. People who used to sell the questions online saw that their market was gone. They pulled down their website because some people who bought it were in Accra but they bought the questions from Ashanti Region; therefore it didn’t show up.
Just this past year (2022 BECE), every examination centre had a different set of questions. In the coming examination, even within the same examination room, students are going to have different questions. It will be a game-changer.
The minister said weeks ago, he was in Sierra Leone. All the West African Education Ministers met and he shared with them the story of Ghana putting an end to examination leakages and they were excited.
He concluded that they have resolved together to meet the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to also serialize WASSCE to make sure that there will be no leakages.
