Scores of passengers have been injured in a crash involving two commercial passenger vehicles at Bepowase stretch of Adukrom-Akuapem to Koforidua highway in Eastern region.
According to eyewitnesses the crash occured today that, both vehicles were speeding and failed to observe traffic regulations hence the crash.
Dozens of injured passenger from both vehicles were rushed to Adukrom health center and Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital.
The badly damaged accident vehicles have been towed to Adukrom police station.
Three (3) persons died on May 16, 2023 at about 7:am during a similar crash between tricycle and truck at Adukrom -Akuapem waterworks.
According to an eyewitness the tricycle locally known as “Aboboya” was loaded with concrete land demarcation pillars descending from Adukrom towards Aseseeso but reportedly failed break, colliding with Kia truck with registration number GE 7984 coming from the opposite direction.
The two persons aboard the tricycle died instantly but the rider died upon arrival at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital where eight other victims were rushed to for emergency care.
Assembly member for Adukrom- Methodist electoral area Hon Ebenezer Obiri Asare, explained that a total of twelve(12) victims were involved .
Five (5) were in the tricycle while seven (7) were in the Kia truck.
Also three (3) persons believed to be relatives drowned in a river last week after a vehicle they were aboard crashed into a river in attempt to avoid head-on collision at Enyiresi stretch of the Accra to Kumasi highway in Eastern region.
The driver of the accident vehicle -a Hyundai Sonata with registration number GS 7776 – 19 reportedly lost control of the steering wheel, somersaulted and plunged into a nearby stream while attempting to give way to an on coming Sprinter bus, which was overtaking another vehicle.
All three (3) occupants of the Hyundai vehicle made up of two female and a male drowned instantly.
A joint rescue team of Police and fire Service went to the scene to pull the car from the river .
The bodies were retrieved and deposited at the morgue pending identification.
Same week, two persons died in another fatal crash which involved a Commercial Hyundai Vehicle and Articulated Truck at Akyem Asafo stretch of the Accra to Kumasi highway in the Eastern region.
Many other passengers aboard the Hyundai Vehicle were seriously injured and rushed to nearby Asafo Health center and Suhum government hospital.
The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Police.
