Dispute Over 20 Pesewas Leads to Testicle-Biting Assault; Woman Arrested in Assin Wurakese

A seemingly trivial disagreement over a mere 20 pesewas (Ghanaian currency) has spiraled into a shocking and violent incident in Assin Wurakese Camp, within the Assin Foso Municipality of Ghana’s Central Region. The altercation resulted in a 43-year-old woman, Esi Affumwaa, being arrested by police for allegedly biting a customer’s testicles, causing serious injuries that required hospitalization.

The victim, identified as Osman, a 36-year-old farmer, recounted the bizarre chain of events that led to the attack. The initial dispute stemmed from a prior transaction at Affumwaa’s drinking spot. Osman had purchased a cigarette for GH₵1.20, paying GH₵1 upfront and promising to settle the remaining 20 pesewas at a later date.

The following day, Osman returned to the drinking spot intending to buy another cigarette and also clear his outstanding debt. He presented Affumwaa with a GH₵5 note, assuming that she would deduct the 20 pesewas owed from the previous day’s purchase. However, when Osman attempted to make a subsequent purchase, Affumwaa confronted him about the unpaid 20 pesewas, sparking a heated argument.

According to Osman’s account, the verbal dispute quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. He alleged that Affumwaa struck him on the head with a stick, causing him to fall to the ground. He further claimed that Affumwaa, with the assistance of her children, then launched a brutal assault upon him, culminating in the shocking act of biting his testicles.

Osman stated that he began bleeding profusely and cried out for help, attracting the attention of bystanders who rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jacob Kumedzro, the Assin Fosu District Police Commander, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are currently underway. The police are working to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and determine the full circumstances surrounding the alleged assault. The case highlights how seemingly minor disputes can escalate into extreme acts of violence, with potentially serious consequences for all involved.
