The concept of blue cards and sin-bins has been met with uncertainty by the football world. IFAB (International Football Association Board) is planning on releasing detailed proposals for blue cards in March. Premier League managers, including Jurgen Klopp, have expressed their opinions on blue cards. Blue cards would be shown to players for cynical fouls or dissent, replacing a yellow card for these offenses. If a player receives two blue cards in a match or a combination of one blue and one yellow card, they would be sent off for the entirety of the game. Goalkeepers would not be exempt from blue cards.

 

Blue cards have already been trialed in grassroots football matches in the UK, and their introduction at higher levels is being considered. Premier League managers have been almost unanimous in their criticism of blue cards, expressing concerns about the complexity and potential confusion it may bring to the game. However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta sees the intention behind blue cards as a way to simplify and improve decision-making in the game.
