Asankran Breman Hospital Burglarized; Owner Expresses Disappointment

Father Henry Ussher, a native of Asankran Breman currently serving as a pastor in the USA and the owner of the Asankran Breman Hospital, has expressed profound disappointment and heartbreak following a recent break-in at his hospital. Thieves targeted the facility, stealing several glass windows, a devastating act that has deeply saddened the philanthropist. Father Ussher’s emotional response underscores the sense of betrayal he feels, given his unwavering commitment to providing healthcare services to his community and the continuous challenges he has faced despite his altruistic efforts.

Father Ussher shared his dismay through a video on Facebook explaining that he had woken up on Christmas morning with the intention of sending well wishes to his community, only to receive news of the break-in and theft. He lamented that despite his generosity and dedication to serving his people, he was being repaid with acts of “evil.” He explained, “God gave him a heart of gold to help his people but they are paying him back with evil.” His words reflect a deep sense of disillusionment and a feeling of being taken advantage of by those he has tried to serve.

He recounted a series of challenges encountered during the initial construction phase of the hospital. In one instance, water pumping machine pipes were stolen by some illegal miners (galamseyers). When he raised alarm and labelled them “Breman Thieves”, he faced backlash and was attacked on Facebook by some individuals from Breman who now reside in Accra. He said he had to buy a new machine for the project, adding to the cost of establishing the facility. In another incident, just a month after buying a mower for clearing the hospital grounds, it was stolen. He noted that money and drugs had also been stolen from the hospital in the past.

Despite these repeated setbacks and heartbreaks, Father Ussher said he had remained steadfast in his commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services to the people of Amenfi West. However, the recent break-in, where thieves targeted the hospital and stole five glass windows from the isolation building and one from the maternity ward, has deeply shaken him. He said it was the last straw, a devastating event that underscores the callousness of the theft. He believes that some members of the community may have witnessed the thieves but are reluctant to report them.

He expressed his belief that some people in the community might have seen the thieves but chose not to report the incident, stating, “because he is a pastor they take him for granted but he believes nature will deal with them”. His comments indicate a sense of betrayal by the very community he is trying to serve and a belief that those who commit such acts will ultimately face consequences. Father Ussher has charged the hospital staff to do everything possible to find the perpetrators. He expressed his frustration at the continued acts of vandalism and theft. This incident highlights the vulnerability of philanthropic initiatives to criminal acts, emphasizing the need for community collaboration and protection of such valuable resources.
