Amenfi West NDC Secretary Urges Support for Council of State Elect-Maxwell Nana Boakye Palasco, Citing Development Needs Over Partisanship

Ebenezer Mensah, the NDC Branch Secretary in the Amenfi West Constituency and a vocal advocate for development in the region, has shared his perspective on the recent election of Maxwell Boakye to represent the Western Region on the Council of State. Despite Maxwell Boakye’s affiliation with a different political party, Mensah is urging members of his own NDC party to support Boakye’s role in the Council, emphasizing the critical need for development in the area and the non-political nature of the advisory body.

Mensah began by congratulating Maxwell Boakye on his victory, noting the pride it brings to the Wassa Amenfi area. He then clarified the role of the Council of State, describing it as a non-political constitutional body that advises the President on appointments and other crucial matters, as outlined in Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. Mensah emphasized that nowhere in the constitution does it suggest that the Council should be partisan in its composition or function.

Highlighting the significance of the election, Mensah stated that for the second time, a son of the Wassa Amenfi area has been elected to represent the region, especially considering the lack of representation from the Wassa Amenfi enclave in the current government being formed.

Mensah cautioned against “killing their own” due to political differences, stressing the importance of promoting local sons and daughters to higher positions that can drive development and address the region’s persistent underdevelopment and lack of representation in government.

Acknowledging that his views may be unpopular among some NDC members, supporters, and sympathizers, Mensah stood by his opinion, citing the non-political nature of the Council of State position as justification. He appealed for unity and collective action, urging NDC members to support Boakye in bringing development to the Wassa Amenfis – Amenfi West, East, and Central – as well as other constituencies within the Western Region.

Mensah emphasized the dire need for basic amenities in the region, including improved roads, better telephony networks, tertiary educational institutions like universities, factories to provide employment for the youth, and scholarships for brilliant students seeking higher education. He also highlighted the lack of adequate water systems and healthcare facilities, despite the region’s significant contribution to the national economy through its rich deposits of gold, cocoa, timber, and other raw materials.

The call for unity and support from Mensah serves as a powerful reminder that the pursuit of development should transcend partisan politics. He appealed to all NDC members, supporters, and sympathizers to set aside their political differences and focus on how local sons and daughters can be featured in future government appointments and how the region can receive its fair share of the national cake. He encouraged his party members to support their appointed MPs, MCEs and Central government to develop their land.

Mensah concluded by urging everyone to remain responsible citizens and to ensure that the Wassa Amenfi area is not left behind, as it has been under various administrations. The statement reflects a growing sentiment that cross-party collaboration and a focus on regional development are essential for the progress and prosperity of the Wassa Amenfi region.
