Amenfi West at a Crossroads: Change or Status Quo?

 

The 2024 general elections in Amenfi West Municipality are generating a palpable sense of anticipation and uncertainty. The political landscape is marked by a clash of ideologies and campaign strategies, with two prominent contenders vying for the parliamentary seat: Hon. Ignatius Kwasi Afrifa, the NPP candidate, and Hon. Eric Afful, the incumbent MP representing the NDC.

 

Hon. Afrifa presents himself as a vibrant leader who champions the true voice of the people. He has outlined a clear vision for Amenfi West, grounded in what he calls the “3Cs”: Competence, Communication, and Courage. His campaign platform emphasizes equitable cocoa benefits, improved infrastructure, support for local businesses like rebranding the local black soap – “Amonkyi” , scholarship initiatives, and a health welfare scheme with a substantial seed fund. This comprehensive plan, coupled with the passionate support of his followers, suggests a potential for change in Amenfi West.

 

 

In contrast, Hon. Afful’s vision for the municipality remains elusive. His campaign seems to rely heavily on the “Home Boy” slogan and the recent shift in allegiance of Kofi Asante, a prominent figure who previously left the NDC, joined NPP and has recently returned to support the NDC party again. While Hon. Afful’s followers are vocal in their support, they have largely focused on attacking Hon. Afrifa’s campaign and defending the status quo, without clearly outlining their own plans for the constituency. This lack of clarity has prompted criticism from individuals like Ebenezer Ansah Boafo, who has challenged Hon. Afful’s supporters to provide evidence of the incumbent’s vision for the people of Amenfi West.

 

 

The upcoming elections in Amenfi West represent a crucial moment for the community. The question is: Will the constituents embrace the change promised by Hon. Afrifa, or will they opt for the status quo represented by Hon. Afful? The outcome will depend on whether the voters prioritize concrete plans and vision for their future or rely solely on party loyalty.
