Former President and NDC presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections, John Dramani Mahama, has outlined his vision for a rapid economic turnaround should he be elected. During a three-day campaign tour in the Upper West Region, on 12th October, 2024  Mahama stated at Wechiau in the Wa West Constituency that within the first 120 days of his government, he will implement a series of “transition measures” aimed at resetting the economy, stemming the daily increase in food and essential goods prices, improving living conditions, and launching job creation initiatives.

Mahama pledged to prioritize immediate steps to stabilize the economy and curb inflation, focusing on curbing the rising cost of food and essential goods. He also highlighted a range of programs aimed at creating jobs, including the “24-hour economy,” the “one million coders” initiative, “Adwumawura,” “Big Push,” “FEED Ghana,” and the “National Apprenticeship Programmes.”

The candidate’s promises were met with enthusiasm in Wechiau, where Naa Imoro Nandom Gomah II and his people reaffirmed their support for Mahama’s candidacy and the NDC. In response, Mahama acknowledged the key challenges facing Ghanaians, particularly the impact of a weak economy and unemployment, assuring the community that the NDC understands the urgency of addressing these issues.

Mahama’s campaign promises are aimed at capturing the attention of voters who are grappling with economic hardship and seeking a tangible plan for improvement. His focus on rapid action within the first 120 days demonstrates a commitment to addressing pressing concerns and offering immediate relief. The breadth of his proposed job creation initiatives suggests a multifaceted approach to tackling unemployment and fostering economic growth. The extent to which he can deliver on these promises, however, will be a crucial test of his leadership if elected.
