An opposition candidate in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has recently filed a petition before the Constitutional Court to challenge the victory of Félix Tshisekedi in the country’s presidential election. The petition comes after provisional figures released by the electoral commission (CENI) showed that Tshisekedi won the election with over 73% of the vote, surpassing the other 25 candidates.

Théodore Ngoy, who ranked last in the presidential election, filed the petition just before the deadline expired. Ngoy’s candidacy received a small percentage of the vote, with the CENI crediting him with 0.02% of the total vote and 4,139 votes.

This petition raises questions about the electoral process and the legitimacy of Tshisekedi’s victory. It will be up to the Constitutional Court to review the petition and make a decision based on the evidence presented.
